diese doppel-lp aus dem hause bbe ist in erster linie für djs und beataffine produzenten gedacht. doch auch freunde eigentümlich-spezieller und wundervoll-mysteriöser sounds dürften ihre freude an dem vinyl haben. der sampler wurde von den beiden versierten kompilationsspezialisten mr thing und chris read zusammengestellt. er enthält eine außergewöhnliche sammlung von 23 library-stücken, die aus dem gigantischen archiv von cavendish music stammen. das 1937 als boosey & hawkes recorded music library gegründete unternehmen ist marktführer für produktionsmusik in großbritannien und weltweit mit dependenzen vertreten. mr thing und chris read erhielten erstmals 2014 im rahmen eines sampleprojekts zugang zum cavendish-archiv. bei ihren grabungen entdeckten die beiden eine sammlung mit aufnahmen aus den 1970er-jahren, die bis heute nichts von ihrer frische und originalität verloren haben. die schönsten perlen daraus finden sich auf -the library archive- wieder. sie reichen von tagträumerischen scores im stile lalo schifrins bis zu atmosphärischen proto-hip-hop-instrumentals.

listening to unknown path s pathfinder for the first time is a claustrophobic experience. it s as if the tracks had been recorded to tape and left to decompose for 10 or so years, then dug up and re-recorded. a thick layer of grunge and an overall murky feel sets the tone for path 0.1 and continues throughout the ep. paths 0.2 and 0.3 add a more upbeat feel to proceedings, as the beats get scattered around like they were in a pinball machine. path 0.4 finishes off the experience by bringing the tempo back down, while all the time keeping the uneasy atmospherics that make this ep a unique and rewarding listen.
byron the aquarius fires up the mpc for a journey into the stratosphere, bringing the heat for ele records 3rdedition with planet rock, a jazz infected keyboard jam with chopped hip hop samples echoing into the cosmos. cozy bear follows with nudi riddim a delectable mix of african percussion, jazz samples and acidic basslines. on the b side we find more hip hop infused methodology, with glenn davis digging into salsouls back catalogue with his huge summer anthem holdin on. finally, unknown artist is back on ele following on from the huge anthem ru$h. this time it s back to the mpc with a daft punk style 90s disco banger fade (never know).

this 4-track ep combines ambient and techno elements to create immersive landscapes, which later on transform into the techno grooves. the concept of this release, unknown frequency, defines the limited nature of human perception, which is unable to experience the full universe of the sound.
on the a-side lies the main concept track as well as its landscape/ambient version. both works express the positive tension and harmonious excitement of the discoveries to come. on the b-side, first track - traces continues the search of the unknown. this time, darker regions of mind are explored by the sinister grooves and minimalistic atmospheres. final track looking for the exit is supposed to give an answer and release the tension of the ep, but after experiencing the unknown, nothing is the same anymore.

unknown mobile has quietly carved out a place for himself in the ever-evolving vancouver beat camp among contemporaries like mood hut, 1080p and project pablo. last years no motion 12 on a/s/l singles club was levi bruces dreamy introduction to most, and 2017 finds him stretching out a bit to further expand his palate of rhythms and textures across the five track mixed use ep for young adults. four sided pebble is a breezy bouncer woven with tickled keys, raw bass and a seamlessly organic live feel throughout. shoreline dub pulses in stuttered syncopation, but keeps its sights set on the dusk dusted horizon with delayed rhodes chords and ocean swells. country side is a total mind-melt, a pastoral graze through mazes of circuit board crop circles. the juggler churns a buttery 4/4 beat in an echo chamber, while proteus 216 dims the lights on its way out to an interstellar communications convention.
the second release from blind allies is the latest journey to the universe of unearthly music. it includes acid electro trip from docta gee, stunning track by -=uhu=-, journey to outer space from franck kartell and cosmic saga by komarken electronics.

hugo capablanca may be best known for his more disco-minded output from his time on gomma records, but increasingly his scattered output and his label have been reaching towards more abrasive material. nothing will prepare you for the confrontational nature of this daring, no label transmission. the artwork alone is enough to challenge the senses, while the opening track is a metallic drone that gives way to the distended mutant beats of top less. guy debord is no less cut throat in delivering a disco punish remix of lap dance on the b side, all deconstructed groove and guttural noise, and then dance less rounds the record off with another excursion into unsettling, heavily processed noise.

in 1988, on the eve of a two decade civil war, somalia s authoritarian ruler siad barre launched punishing air strikes on the north of the country, known today as somaliland, in response to agitations for independence. the bombing leveled the entire city. barre targeted radio hargeisa to prevent any kind of central communication system that could organize a resistance. with the attack imminent, a few brave radio operators and dedicated vanguards of somali culture knew the archives, containing over half a century of somali music had to be preserved. thousands upon thousands of cassette tapes and master reels were quickly removed from the soon-to-be targeted buildings. they were dispersed to neighboring countries like djibouti and ethiopia, and buried deep under the ground to withstand even the most powerful airstrikes.
